L'Ormarins Queens Plate 2017

2017 represented the 156th Queen’s Plate. It has been sponsored by Drakenstein Stud Farm and Anthonij Rupert Wyne since 2005, and this years event was one of wonderful style, presence, great racing and a stunning day out.
People came to be seen, to see some of the best South African horse racing, and some of the most exciting horses, jockeys and owners.
The Queens Plate was
race first run in 1861 and the prize back then was a silver plate donated by Queen Victoria, and five hundred sovereigns.
The names of the horses, jockeys and owners have been immortalised in great style, in a remarkable display in the Kenilworth race course building and a restaurant called Hero's in Hartfield Village, some 500m from Kenilworth Racecourse.
The last few years have seen the event grow into an exceptional day, and more recently, the winning horses of The Paddocks Stakes and The Queens Plate have been given free entrance to The Breeders Cup in the USA.
